Askam Kamyon Imalat ve tic. A. S. was established in 1962 originally as a joint venture with 60% Chrysler International S.A.and 40 % local share and started production in 1964.In 1978, Chrysler International S.A. sold its share to the local partners - Tatko, Çiftçiler, Ruşensad -. Company continued its production under Manufacturing, Patent, Licence and Sales Agreement with Chrysler International.In 1991, Askam started production of Hino light trucks under licence of Hino Motors, Ltd of Japan, in addition to vehicles produced under Chrysler licence.Askam Kamyon developed its own product and manufacturing engineering capabilities as an independent company maintaining technical cooperation with well-known international component manufacturers like Eaton, ZF, Dana Spicer, Perkins Engines, Deutz AG, MAN Steyr and Jellinghaus Gmbh, along with its relations with Chrysler, USA and Hino Motors, Japan.Askam Kamyon is extending technical know-how and training support and supplying CKD parts for assembly of trucks in Egypt under the licence and technical collaboration agreements signed in 1996.After the Daimler-Benz and Chrysler merger, the company name was changed to “askam Kamyon imalat ve tic. A. ş.” in 2002. Askam Kamyon is continuing to market its products under Desoto and Fargo brands.Facilities located 40 km.s from İstanbul lie over 109.000 m2 of land 40.000 m2 of which is closed area.Production processes include stamping and fabrication, body welding, paintshop, engine and main assembly lines and per annum production capacity is 9000 units one shift. Product line is composed of pick-ups and trucks in 3.5 to 40 tons GVW / GCW range. About 160.000 units of Askam production are in service in a wide range of applications from construction to long distance transportation.Askam Kamyon has “ISO 9001:2000 Quality Assurance Certificate” and its calibration laboratory accredited by Turkish Standards Institute has been granted “Laboratory Proficiency Certificate”. as a company of a forty-years-experience, Askam Kamyon is continuing to contribute to Turkish economy with a network of over fifty authorized dealers and seventyone services and hundreds of parts outlets. Shares of Tatko and Ruşensad in Askam was acquired by Çiftçiler Group in May, 2003. Çifçiler Group was one third share holder before they obtained the 100 % of the equity. The group has been engaged in automotive business for 70 years. Marketing, domestic & export sales and after-sales-services activities for commercial vehicles under Fargo and Desoto brand names are executed by Askam Otomotiv San. ve Tic. A.S.
